Kamala Johnson is a multi-talented beauty entrepreneur who works with brands, influencers, and multicultural women to bring their visions to life through makeup artistry, digital content, and live experiences.
Kamala believes every woman should experience makeup looks that are timeless and elevated. Kamala’s approach to makeup specializes in utilizing various textures to achieve clean yet sculpted skin. She also loves executing makeup looks inspired by editorial and runway trends.
Growing up in Atlanta, Georgia, Kamala was fascinated by photo and video content that highlighted details of the fashion and beauty industries. Through her natural curiosity for beauty, Kamala gained exposure to the art world and cultivated her voice as a makeup artist.
After years of working in the beauty industry and refining her expertise, Kamala moved to New York City to expand her career. While in NYC, she worked with extraordinary brands, publications, and various tv/film productions with Hypebae, Hypebeast, Mastercard, Revolt TV, and VH1.
Kamala trained under various professional makeup artists and educators, including Mali Thomas and Michela Wariebi, and previously worked for MAC Cosmetics to hone her craft. Some of Kamala's editorial work can be found featured in Solstice Magazine and Ellements Magazine.
Kamala holds a bachelor’s degree in Journalism with a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Hospitality Administration from Georgia State University. Crediting her education, Kamala has used the skills she’s learned throughout her career to add media consultant and event producer to her professional portfolio.
Working as an event producer, she has collaborated with brands and agencies to produce beauty, lifestyle, and entertainment events and activations for Clinique, Essence Magazine, Project Beauty Expo, the BET Hip Hop Awards, and the Shorty Awards to name a few.
Kamala currently thrives on the east coast residing in Atlanta, GA, working as a freelance makeup artist, content creator, and media consultant. In partnership with SLAYEDHAIRATL, she co-founded The Beauty Invite, a beauty, hair, and lifestyle expo for multicultural women.
